Turley Road

This house, on a lifestyle block north of Auckland, accommodates self-contained living conditions. In addition to incorporating the usual sustainability features (including macrocarpa milled on-site) its design is very much determined by the optimal positioning of the photo-voltaic array of panels (for electricity generation) on the one hand and the need for special service spaces on the other. Hence the house consists of three distinct parts: the two-storey living areas at the centre are joined by single level bedroom and service wings. North-facing living spaces and sunrooms capture passive solar gains while the service wing to the south-east acts as a buffer to cold winter winds. Various special features give this house its unique character.
