Carter Road 2

The design of this house enables three generations to comfortably share the space by providing a three bedroom home and a minor dwelling to be used separately or communally. A sunroom acts as a ‘hinge’ between those units and, being north-facing, it can be opened up and used as a rain- and wind-protected semi-outdoor space throughout the year.
Passive solar design principles have been incorporated in that all living spaces are north-facing with large joinery. Excellent insulation, double-glazing, cross-ventilation and shading devices go a long way to keeping energy-needs for space heating low in winter while preventing over-heating in summer.
Rainwater is captured for use in and around the house and a biolytix system is managing the wastewater on site.
