A bush
environment and a steep slope combine to determine the shape of the
house, built in terraces. The Hauraki Gulf, offering beautiful views,
lies to the South, the open ‘window’ to capture the sun’s
energy to the Northeast. The design takes both directions into
account and requires double glazing and very high insulation to
create and maintain a comfortable and healthy indoor environment.
Among the sustainability features are renewable materials and natural
finishes, as well as rainwater collection and on-site wastewater
disposal.
